I have bought many of these frames in the past and have found them to be in better shape than
buying them at the local Jerry's off of the shelf. Not "so" with this order. Both 18 x 24 frames were poorly constructed. The joints were not "tight" or "even" and there were small chunks of wood off of the corners on both frames.

Each of the 12 5X7 frames I received had a blemish in the gold finish which made it unacceptable for me to use for a client ( I am a professional fine artist). I had a client waiting for a painting in one of these frames (which was a change-out from the standard frame, but they wanted it to match another painting they had purchased from me). Customer service at Jerry's bent over backward to get me a good frame (I only needed ONE!), but none of 12 were acceptable. Finally, to get my client's painting out by deadline as a Christmas present, I put put the painting in the best of the 12 frames, and ate the cost.

Don't usually write reviews but liked this frame at the price I paid for it enough that it seemed like a nice opportunity to pass along a good word. Unlike every other pre-assembled frame I've used this one felt solid, the finish looked polished, the hanging hardware was classy and the construction appeared to be able to withstand years of rough use. It seemed to have many of the qualities I'd only observed in well made custom frames. Listed for over $60 it was at Jerry's for [$]which seemed like less than you'd pay for a lesser frame in a bricks and mortar operation. A nice piece of plexi would have made mounting my pencil drawing easier and saved me some running around but it was, after all, listed as a plein air (read painting) frame.

I have used the gold ones for a long time. After some 30x40's were destroyed in shipping, I have used only the smaller sizes. Most recently, I tried the Mahogany in 18x24. Beautifully packaged, but that was the drawback: under those nice cardboard corners was flaking finish around the miter cuts on three of four frames. Since this was my second failed attempt to order decent 18x24's in dark wood (see ProArtist review of Accent frames), I reluctantly retouched two of them because they were needed NOW for a show. The fourth was totally unusable.The frames are heavy-duty and the Mahogany color is beautiful with my work. I just hope Jerry's can get their quality control with these [*]factories straightened out. Their products can be wonderful and then very poorly-made and hidden by packaging IN the factory.Finally, I need to commend Jerry's Customer Service. They are acessible, prompt, courteous and very good about making amends for defective merchandise.

I'm a painter. Frames give good impression from a distance but close inspection shows defects. Gold finish is far too thin/brittle and not permanent. Use of a price sticker or other stick-on label simply removes the gold finish entirely when the label is removed. Not happy after installing the dozen or so frames purchased.

I usually buy frames from the local Jerry's store so I can make sure there are no chips or damage to the edges. I was nervous about buying online but the price was too good to pass up. I was very pleasantly surprised to get the frames quickly and in perfect condition. I love the individual boxes which I will save to transport the framed paintings to shows. (Wish the stores kept the boxes.) I've already recommended them to several of my fellow artists. Frames are professional quality at a very low price point. The size and opening are perfect for canvas boards or stretched canvas, although you have to figure out how to secure your work!! They do provide hardware and wrap the frames in tissue, but sometimes you have to rub off the extra gold leaf.When writing this review they only give the options for photographer, etc.although I am also, this product is not for photos, unless you cut glass for them[...] If you need this style for a show, they're perfect!

I have used the plein air frames in the past to show my oil paintings. In the past, I have been pleased with the quality based on the price. But, upon comparing this order with past orders, I feel the quality has slipped a great deal. They seem to be made of some molded product of inferior quality and no longer have reinforced corner joints. I do not feel comfortable ordering these frames for an art show. I have been using Creative Mark Plein Aire frames for several years. With a mat and glass or plexi, and a Fleximaster point driver my watercolors look amazing, and both oil and acrylic paintings are easily framed up with gallery clips. My work looks like I am spending a fortune with a custom framer but I am doing it all myself! Stretched canvas matches the standard sizes for my oils and watercolors. I have made templates out of foam board for my watercolors for common frame sizes I use that give me a 3" mat. I have used both gold and silver. They are a great value for the serious artist.

This is an inexpensive way to get your work to the end state and display it professionally. If something works, don't fix it. Comes complete with hanging hardware, but it helps to have a screwgun. I bought these based on the reviews and the pictures. I don't care for gold, so, got 2 sizes in the silver finish, 1 in the black and 1 in the mahogany. Well, the silver ones thankfully are nice enough and look "as advertised" on the site. The other 2, however, appear to be plastic, not even wood!!!!! I'm VERY disappointed with that as they look cheap as can be. I've yet to frame anything with them so can't say if they ended up being usable or not. I spend a lot of time and effort on my paintings and wanted something inexpensive to frame them in for gallery showings but not something that looked tacky and cheap. I may order the silver ones again if they work out for me and aren't as fragile as other reviewers have stated.

I've been buying these frames from Jerry's for over 10 yrs now and have literally spent thousands on them. While I really appreciate the low price, it's kinda you-get-what-you-pay-for land. I agree with other posters, VERY nice out of the box & they don't compete with the work, gotta love that. However, they ding VERY super-easily and once dinged, they're useless. Because the wood is so soft, they require a whole lot of extra padding ( = incrsd costs) in order to transport anywhere, more than other art-supply frames I've used. I've also found, to my great distress, that these frames oxidize over time, they get what appears to be spotty tarnish over the surface and thus far, I've found no reliable method for repairing that which doesn't damage the frame further. So,after about 8-10 months or so, I have to spray the gold frames ( I always buy gold, have tried silver a few times, same issues) a satin black. It's not my idea of a swell time and I don't think I should have to do this. I continue to use them because of the price, although at some point I may need to re-consider how much a bargain they are in the long run. They're good for art fairs/outdoor festivals, but using them in a gallery under bright lights hastens the tarnish thing, I had to learn that the hard way from an irate gallery owner. Wish Jerry's could do something to improve the "shelf-life" of these nice little frames, eliminate the tarnish issue and maybe make them a bit easier to transport ding-less.

These frames present excellent value for art fairs, low to medium range retail, and personal use. The good looking faux gold-leaf and other finishes are credible. They look good on the wall, although to nitpick a little more distressing would be nice. However, I would not want to present these in galleries or other high end venues. But for the price you can't do better and these can open up venues where the cost of a true gold or metal leaf frame would be prohibitive.

This is my frame of choice for just about all my paintings. It's extremely well constructed, much less expensive that similar frames in area retail stores, AND it comes in it's own protective box with the framing hardware.

I purchased a number of the dark wood and gold frames in the plein air style. The dark wood ones seem fine. If you touch the golds, it leaves a permanent smudge. Several gold ones also had cracks in the corners, which made them unusable. I have been unhappy with the quality of these frames and will not reorder.

I purchased the GOLD frames. They are solidly built, quite heavy, and especially nicely faux finished to resemble gold leafing. Be aware that the gold color is very orange, which is stunning with some paintings. I would like the company to also add a gold which is neutral or would be nice to have a platinum color which is both warm and cool. I would certainly recommend this item!
