This is a sturdy easel. The only problem is the piece of wood that holds the canvas. The screw could be a lot tighter. My canvas will sometime slip if I move the easel. Other than that, it is a great easel for the price.

I LOVE THIS PRODUCT AND FOR THE PRICE AND HELPFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE WHEN ORDERING AND FREE SHIPPING I LOVE IT EVEN MORE. THE ONLY DRAWBACK I WOULD SPEAK TO IS THAT AN EDGE AROUND THE AREA WHERE WE TEND TO PUT SOME OF OUR TOOLS WHILE WE ARE WORKING (THE MIDDLE BAR UNDER WHERE THE CANVAS BOTTOM RESTS) SO THAT THEY WOULD STAY PUT BETTER.... A NICE IMPROVEMENT BUT I CAN LIVE WITHOUT IT.

Pros:
Durable Construction, Highly Adjustable, Sturdy Tripod
Describe Yourself:

Comments about Creative Mark Carolina Studio Easel:

I list myself as value oriented when in fact value without quality workmanship is no value at all. This is a good work horse of an easel and it handles all my painting needs with out distracting me with adjustments or maintenance. It is sufficent to the need when the need is big. A great value of good quality. It would take a very heavy piece to require more than this easel offers. A good deal -maybe a steal.

Comments about Creative Mark Carolina Studio Easel:

This easel is made of 1" thick boards except for the base, which is made of 2" pieces. Just as a few people said, the bottom cross member/shelf does not hold well and will slide as you are painting. I just retighten it frequently as I'm painting. All they had to do was have another fastening brace (total of two) instead of the single they have for you. I'm surprised to see that this easel is sturdy, even with the thin board construction. My instructors sturdy easels are made of 2x4's and this one is made of 1x's, but seams sturdy enough. The boxes this easel is packed in need major improvement! It will ship to you in a double box which should be good enough but the cardboard is really cheap. This is a major issue because the legs of the easel pop out, then what ever parts come loose will escape during shipping. (I will show some pics of the replacement easel box...nothing eacaped though) Also, the easel will have mold on it due to poor packing. My first easel's wood support was cracked and some nuts and bolts escaped during shipping due to the poor box material.I thought UPS was just rough with it until I cut the boxes for recycling...cheap cardboard. Overall, with a coupon code; I paid [$] for this easel. It is surprisingly sturdy and is a great alternative to the expensive easels. It can use some improvement in design and packaging, but I would consider buying more if I had a teaching art studio. Yep, I still recommend this to a friend...with a warning of it's flaws. Jerry's has great customer service and handles any issues I have professionally and fairly. I will continue to spend my fortune on their web site ;)

i was looking for an additional easel for my studio which could accommodate large paintings. This easel came assembled.... BIG PLUS .... and it works very well for small paintings as well. If you are looking for an easel where you can easily make adjustments, this one is not like the one touch or crank models. But it is sturdy and holds the canvas well. I also like that the platform base is placed so that I don't keep kicking it (as in others I have tried).

Exactly as represented-a quality work horse for home art with good features, function, mobility and fold-up storage (if ever needed; looks good simply resting in place). Just the slightest hint of assembly instructions would have been helpful but by the time I got to assembling the second easle I had it down (a room temperature IQ will suffice for this assembly) . The assembly instruction video on web site would not function after several attempts.

a well built easel, with a minor flaw
By tommyb from driftwood, TX on 2/21/2011
Pros:
Sturdy Tripod
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Creative Mark Carolina Studio Easel:

This is a well built easel. It's stable and rock solid. It has a few flaws, which others have mentioned. There are no instructions (which should not be an issue if you are at all left brained)and the parts are not even in a bag, so they'll spill all over when you open the box. Those are only minor annoyances. The biggest flaw is the design of the bottom canvas support. Turning the knob shown in the middle of the shelf tightens two wedges against the back of the mast. Since the wedges and the mast are both varnished, there is little friction, and the canvas support cannot hold much weight without slipping down. A light canvas is probably not an issue, but a heavy one, a panel, or a drawing board would cause the shelf to fall on your toes. It's a simple fix. I used a small clamp. Others mentioned drilling a series of holes to put a peg in. In any case, it's not a deal breaker, but it's something of which you should be aware... It's still a great easel at a really low price. I would buy it again in a heartbeat!

Comments about Creative Mark Carolina Studio Easel:

The easel is fine, not what I expected, but also not an expensive easel. Should have returned it, but decided you get what you pay for. I will not order anything from this company again

Functionally a nice product. Unfortunately, the lower shelf was assembled incorrectly and the locking mechanism did not work. Being a woodworker, I was able to modify it to function properly. The average person could not do this. There were no instructions for assembly included and no detail photos to help out with assembly. The assembled unit looks different from the picture on the box so that did not offer any help either.

Comments about Creative Mark Carolina Studio Easel:

This easel is all that it claims to be - sturdy, easy to fold and stow away, and of nice oiled wood with the little rubber bumpers. The design could be improved: the center mast will slip down as soon as you loosen the nut on the top clamp. It is inconvenient to have to hold up the mast while you are inserting a canvas, especially a larger canvas. I have propped the center mast up with a piece of wood which I remove after the canvas is inserted. I think I will go further by drilling a series of holes at intervals for the sizes I work in, and inserting a peg to hold the mast up when changing canvases. I don't mind doing this for what I paid for the easel, but go for a cable-suspended one if you want real ease of adjustment, especially if you work in anything larger than 16x20. IMHO, the ratchet models can pinch your fingers.
